How to Find Your Perfect Cuff & Bangle Size
Finding Your Perfect Fit
A well-fitting cuff or bangle changes everything. It settles on the wrist, moves with you, and after a few wears you stop noticing it is there — which is exactly as it should be.
This guide will walk you through how to measure your wrist, choose the right size, and understand how a handmade sterling silver cuff should feel when worn. It takes about two minutes, and it means your Roxwoods piece arrives ready to wear.
Why Fit Matters
A cuff that fits well stays in place and feels comfortable all day. Too tight, and it restricts movement. Too loose, and it shifts around or risks slipping off.
All Roxwoods cuffs are solid sterling silver with a polished interior finish — designed to sit smoothly and comfortably against the skin from the first time you wear them. Getting the size right is the only step left to you.
How to Measure Your Wrist
What you need: a soft tape measure, or a strip of paper or string and a ruler.
Step by step:
- Wrap the tape measure around your wrist where you would normally wear a cuff
- Keep it snug against the skin, but not tight
- Note the measurement in centimetres
- Add 0.6 to 1.2 cm depending on how you like your jewellery to sit:
- Add less for a closer, more precise fit
- Add more for a relaxed, slightly looser feel
This final number is your ideal cuff size.
Snug Fit vs Relaxed Fit
This comes down to personal preference.
Snug fit — sits close to the wrist with very little movement. Feels secure and controlled. Good for everyday wear and active days.
Relaxed fit — has a little movement on the wrist. Easier to slip on and off. A good choice if you prefer your jewellery to feel less structured.
If you are unsure, choose somewhere in the middle. A well-fitted cuff should feel secure without any pressure on the skin.
Women's Silver Cuffs
Use your final wrist measurement (after adding your comfort allowance) to find your size.
- S - 14 to 15 cm (5.5" to 5.9")
- M - 15 to 16 cm (5.9" to 6.3")
- L - 16 to 17 cm (6.3" to 6.7")
- XL - 17 to 18 cm (6.7" to 7")
Men's Silver Cuffs
- XS - 16 to 17 cm (6.3" to 6.7")
- S - 17 to 18 cm (6.7" to 7")
- M - 18 to 19 cm (7" to 7.5")
- L - 19 to 20 cm (7.5" to 7.9")
- XL - 20 to 21 cm (7.9" to 8.3")
Will My Cuff Fit Securely?
Because cuffs are solid and non-adjustable, the fit needs a little thought before you order — but with correct measuring it is straightforward.
A well-fitted cuff should:
- Slide over the narrowest part of your wrist with a little resistance
- Sit securely once on
- Move slightly when you move, but not spin or shift significantly
If it feels too loose: it may rotate or risk slipping off during movement. If it feels too tight: it may feel restrictive after a short time.
If you are between sizes, the slightly larger size usually gives better comfort for everyday wear.
How to Find Your Bangle Size
Bangles work differently from cuffs. Because they are fully closed, they need to pass over your hand rather than simply fit your wrist — so it is your hand measurement, not your wrist, that matters here.
Method 1: Measure Your Hand (Recommended)
- Bring your thumb and little finger together, as if sliding on a bangle
- Measure around the widest part of your hand
- Use this measurement to select your size below
- S - 19 to 20 cm (7.5" to 7.9")
- M - 20.5 to 21.5 cm (8" to 8.5")
- L - 22 to 23 cm (8.7" to 9")
- XL - 23.5 to 24.5 cm (9.3" to 9.6")
If you are between sizes, choose the larger. It will be easier to get on and more comfortable to wear.
Method 2: Use a Bangle You Already Own
Measure the internal diameter — the widest point across the inside of the bangle — and compare below.
- S - 6 to 6.5 cm (2.4" to 2.6")
- M - 7 to 7.5 cm (2.7" to 2.9")
- L - 8 to 8.5 cm (3.1" to 3.3")
- XL - 9 to 9.5 cm (3.5" to 3.7")
Cuff vs Bangle: Which Is Right for You?
Cuffs are open on the inside and slide onto the wrist. Roxwoods cuffs are solid sterling silver, designed for easy everyday wear — on and off without fuss.
Bangles are fully closed and slip over the hand to sit on the wrist. They move a little more freely and work well stacked or worn alone.
Choosing between them often comes down to how you like your jewellery to feel. Both are designed to be worn every day, not saved for occasions.
Common Sizing Mistakes
- Measuring too tightly against the skin
- Forgetting to add a comfort allowance before selecting your size
- Choosing based on guesswork rather than measuring
- Using wrist measurement rather than hand measurement when sizing a bangle
Taking two minutes to measure properly makes a real difference. With the right fit, a Roxwoods piece settles into your daily life as if it was always meant to be there.
FAQ
What if my cuff does not fit when it arrives?
If your cuff is not the right size, we are happy to exchange it for a different size as long as it is returned in its original unworn condition. Get in touch and we will sort it out for you.
Can a silver cuff be resized?
Our silver cuffs cannot be resized after making due to the way they are constructed. This is why we recommend measuring carefully before you order. If you are at all unsure, contact us before you buy and we will help you find the right size.
How long will my order take?
Each Roxwoods cuff is made to order in our Herefordshire studio. Please allow 2 to 3 weeks for your piece to be made and delivered. You will receive a confirmation when your order is placed and a notification when it is on its way.
Can I wear my silver cuff every day?
Yes. Roxwoods cuffs are designed for everyday wear. We do recommend removing your cuff before swimming, or going to the gym — chemicals in pool water can affect the finish over time, and jewellery worn during exercise risks damage if it catches on equipment. A little care goes a long way.
How do I look after my silver cuff?
Clean your cuff with a soft polishing cloth to keep the finish looking its best. Store it in its box in a dry place — avoid leaving it in the bathroom where humidity can affect the silver over time. For full guidance, visit our jewellery care page.
I am between sizes. Which should I choose?
If you fall between two sizes, we generally recommend choosing the larger for everyday comfort. If you prefer a closer, more precise fit, the smaller size may suit you better. If you would like to talk it through before ordering, get in touch and we will help.
